Upgrade StorageFootnote citations turned into numbers

I am working on a chapter of my dissertation, using zotero as my citation manager. When I opened the document yesterday, the footnote citations disappeared, and in their place, were numbers. When I click "edit citation" in word, the citation appears in the zotero popup, but when I try to add a new one, it is transformed to just a number. Thus, the citation data is still there. Has this happened to any of you? Any suggestions?
