"Zotero cannot insert field here" / Zotero does not produce bibliography
Hi,
As I had to hand in my PhD last Friday, I'd really appreciate some help. I upgraded my storage but of course this does not solve it as I use Word + plug-in (everything is synced now).
Yesterday I pasted the separate chapters (with Zotero references) into 1 Word file. I did a refresh of the references but I'm not sure it did refresh. I then completed my references, many manually, because it's faster than letting zotero do it in my case. It"s a 380 p. Word doc (MS 365, but I can't update it for technical reasons). I recently updated Zotero on my computer. I notice that I have to chose the 'No Mark-up' option of Word's Review function, if not Zotero is very slow or doesn't even work. But every time I open the file it automatically goes to the All Mark-up option again (which slows it down), even if I had addecpte all Changes, deleted all Comments and turned of tracking changes. So I wanted to produce the bibliography using the Word plugin and it doesn't do it, neither in a copy I made by duplicating the document, neither by copy-pasting it in a new doc. I noticed when I was still completing the references (that was before the storage upgrade) that I couldn't even make new references anymore. I saw Zotero was active, but the reference simply didn't produce itself. When I had closed the document I saw the message "Zotero cannot insert field here".
Now my Mac is old and slow and I can't do anything for which I have to be the administrator (a problem that can only be solved later). So is it possible that my Word doc is simply too much for Zotero to take: the number of references is vast.
I need the quickest way to solve this, even if it is not the long-term way to solve it. I have to hand in my PhD this night.
Can I solve this by using the web library instead of the application? Can I solve this by using another computer? Any other suggestions please? Thanks a lot!

cswyzenAdding this: I have a McBook Air with OS Monterey 12.7.2 and use MS Word for Mac 16.89.1 (Microsoft 365 Subscription of my university).

cswyzenIt seems to have worked after all with a duplicate of the file. Maybe I did something to debug it (but can't recall what) or Zotero just needed more time with such a big file.
