Is there a way for the titles to be in italics automatically?

You'd have to say more. Styles (including Chicago Manual) generally handle italicization of titles (such as of book titles) automatically and always have.

I use Chicago Manual, now the 18th edition.

As I said, it generally italicizes correctly. You'd have to provide examples of when it doesn't
