[Plugin] Minimize Zotero To Tray: Close Interception, Tray Icon, Hotkey, Hide on Startup

Hello everyone,

I have written a new plugin for Zotero 7 users on Windows 11. If you've ever wanted to close the main Zotero window but keep it running in the background with a tray icon, this plugin is for you.

It minimizes Zotero to the system tray instead of closing it.

KEY FEATURES

* Tray Icon: Creates a Zotero icon in the system tray.

* Close Interception: Prevents Zotero from closing when you click the 'X' button, use Alt+F4, or close it from the taskbar.

* Restore Window: A single click on the tray icon brings the Zotero window back.

* Global Hotkey: Use a global hotkey to quickly show or hide the Zotero window.

* Hide on Startup: An option to automatically hide the Zotero window when it starts. This is perfect if you have Zotero set to run on Windows startup.

  • Thanks, is compatible with Zotero 8?
  • Yes, I have upgraded to Zotero 8, and this plugin still works.
  • Wonderful. Just a comment: in the tray icon it would be useful to be able to right click "Exit Zotero".
Currently the only way to close Zotero is to maximise, file/exit
  • Thanks for your suggestion, I will consider adding this feature :)
  • There's no minimize to tray on Linux? I've tried this plugin on Linux and it blocks the X button from closing, which actually helps, as it forces us to minimize to the taskbar instead of closing it by mistake. But there seems to be no minimize to tray on Linux.
  • Sorry about that, I don't have a Linux PC, so I can't adapt it for Linux :(
