How to italicize magazine titles and names in Vancouver style

I have the updated version of Zotero and the connector. I've selected the Vancouver style, but when I add a reference to my bibliography, it doesn't show the document or book titles or the journal name in italics. What can I do?
  • I'd like to add that I've also noticed that in the references to articles from online academic journals, the term "INTERNET" and the DOI aren't included in the bibliography. What can I do to make it look Vancouver-style?
  • Standard Vancouver/NLM style doesn't use italics. Which style requirements are you looking to follow?
  • I'm working on a medical thesis, and we were instructed to follow the Vancouver style. I assume I should follow the NLM's guidelines, "Citing Medicine." I don't know if styles exist within Vancouver, but for now, I'd like to know how to add the term "internet" and the DOI to my online study references, and how I can add titles in italics. I welcome responses.
  • Adam Smith, you're right. Looking at the guide, the Vancouver style doesn't use italics, but I've seen in some documents, like the one from Imperial College London, that they do use italics. I understand now that some institutions mandate some details in the Vancouver style. So, I'll resolve this with my university, but I would like to know about the term "internet" and how to include the DOI or URL of an online article.
  • Sometimes people use the term "Vancouver" to mean a numeric style.
We have many many styles on the repository. If you share a link to the guidelines you're supposed to follow we can help you better.
  • You can check the "Include URL" box in the Styles tab of the Zotero preferences to get the [Internet] part, but I don't think you'd normally want that, either, to be honest.
  • What I should follow is the Vancouver style according to NLM: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7256/ ; I'm already clear that italics aren't used, but I don't understand why Zotero doesn't register the term "online" and the DOI in my online articles. I've followed all the guidelines and verified that all the entries are filled out correctly, but those terms still don't appear in the academic journal article type. They do appear in other references if I classify them as web pages. I think I'm missing something in Zotero. Thanks for the answers.
  • Adam, thanks for your recommendation. I've enabled the option to include URLs in the Zotero menu. I can now see the term "Internet" and the URLs in my references, but in some, I only have the DOI, and this one doesn't appear. How can I add this?
  • DOIs are not generally included in Citing Medicine -- there is a single example of a journal article with a DOI in the journal chapter (although virtually all examples have DOIs) and that example is in the "Example for Notes" category, i.e. entries with optional additional information. On Internet see above.

As damnation says, there is a lot of variation in Vancouver implementation (and Zotero has about a dozen styles labelled "Vancouver" on zotero.org/styles ) so it's easier to follow a specific guide than you being frustrated by the very specific generic Vancouver implementation that ships with Zotero.
