Zotero for the browser version of Microsoft Word.

Hi, I found out about this wonderful application some time ago and it has served me very well since I switched from Mendeley. However, now I have had to go back to using this again (with all the bugs that come with it). Don't get me wrong, of my own free will I would never do it again, however, I am doing some team research and most of my colleagues do not have Microsoft Word for desktop installed so they can only use the browser version.
So that's why I wanted to ask, is there any way to add the Zotero add-in to the Word but browser version. Researching, I've come across that they don't implement it for Microsoft yet, only Google Docs has it, but I understand that the browser version allows developers to upload the file of an add-in locally, so I was wondering if there is anyone who tried it before or can do it.
I would be very grateful to read your ideas, I DON'T WANT TO KEEP USING MENDELEY!
  • Not currently possible, no, though generally planned
  • @Valeria15_02: We've developed a plugin for Word Online, but we're waiting for changes on Microsoft's end before we can release it. We're working with them to make that happen.
  • Very much looking forward to this!

Are there any updates on this front?

Zotero+word online is for me the perfect tool for academic manuscript collaboration.
  • hi, any updates on the plugin for Word Online? And will Zotero work on Google Docs online?
  • @natashachristopher: Zotero has supported Google Docs for years. We're still waiting on Microsoft to be able to support Word Online.
  • @dstillman While I understand the delay and wait from Microsoft is ongoing, is there any reason why we cannot try a beta version in the meantime? Or is it that a crucial feature is not working?

I was hoping to start on some projects using word online with collaborators by December, but it looks like that is no longer feasible.
  • You can collaborate on Word documents with Microsoft Word installed on your computer using OneDrive syncing tools. You don't need Word Online for that.

Crucial features are not working in Word Online which is why we are not able to release anything. We are waiting for updates and fixes on Microsoft's end.
