Problem with Google Docs in Safari

Today I re-booted by Mac and when I re-opened a Google Doc I was working on, I tried to use Zotero (which was on the drop down menu) but when I clicked on it in the drop down nothing happened. I then closed and re-opened both Zotero and Safari and now when I open my Google Doc, Zotero doesn't come up on the Google Docs menu. Finally, when I open Safari to look for the Zotero Connector in the extensions (Safari>Settings>Extensions), I don't see any extensions.

It looks like my version of Zotero is the most recent one available (ver 7.0.17). Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get everything up and running again?

Update: I re-booted a couple more times for good measure, but no luck there. So then I downloaded Chrome onto my Mac, installed the Zotero Connector extension, and everything seems to be running OK in Chrome. So, I can use that for the time being, though I liked having everything running in Safari.

Does Chrome work better with Zotero than Safari? It seems to be running faster on my machine (a MacBook Air from late-2022).
