Will MCP service be released in the future?

Will there be an MCP service in the future? The MCP service can bring more possibilities to Zotero
  • +1 on this request! The community has already built several MCP servers for Zotero (like and others), which shows there's real demand for this functionality. Official MCP support would be fantastic for enabling semantic search, RAG capabilities, and seamless AI integration with our research libraries. This could really enhance research workflows by allowing natural language queries across our collections.

To give some context: MCP is an open standard introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 that's been rapidly adopted by major AI providers including OpenAI and Google DeepMind. It's designed to solve the "N×M integration problem" where every AI system needs custom connectors for each data source. Think of it as a universal adapter that lets AI assistants talk to any system that provides an MCP server - similar to how USB-C standardized device connections.

  • Agreed - if someone from the official Zotero team sees this post, let me know! I built this zotero-mcp that are being used by many people in the community - would love to help making official MCP support. :)
