Upgrade StorageTranslator as "Creator"

Is there a way to have a translator register as the "creator" of a work? This is not so much an issue with the citation, per se, as it is when I've tried to use the "rename items from metadata" function. This is mainly an issue for texts where the main "creator" is a translator, because the original work doesn't have an author per se (as is the case with some classical works, for example), or the author is unknown.
The main workaround Is simply to change the translator to "author" before doing the rename operation; simple enough, but I'm wondering if there is some other workaround?
