Zotero 7 Bug: Creator entries forced to full-name field with no option to split into first/last name

Hi all,

In Zotero 7 on my Windows, I’m unable to enter author names in the standard two-field format (first name / last name). This is a new problem that started a few days ago, so for most of my 40 page report the citation style (Chicago 17 author-date) is correct. However, now all creator entries—whether new or edited—default to a single field for full name input, and:

There is no visible pencil icon, dropdown, or UI option to switch to two-field mode

Holding Shift while clicking "Add" has no effect

Citations then render incorrectly, e.g., (Diana Farrell and Susan Lund 2006) instead of the expected (Farrell and Lund 2006)

Running diagnostic JavaScript confirms Zotero is saving these as firstName: "Diana Farrell" and lastName: ""

Even test items created from scratch behave this way: Here's the submitted report D1845666293

I also generated a debug output from the developer console and noticed a large number of localization/resource errors including:
Missing resource in locale en-AU: reader.ftl
WebSocket connection closed: 1006
TypeError: items is not iterable

I don't have enough experience with code to really understand what is wrong or how to fix it. Also, quitting and restarting Zotero has not fixed this issue.

Help! Thank you!
  • The button to switch modes appears when you hover over a creator row, to the left of the minus/plus buttons. If you're not seeing it, can you provide a screenshot?
