Zotero Connector: unexpected switch to Zotero Desktop when minimized

edited 11 days ago
After importing an item with the Zotero Connector, I would like to be able to select the destination of the imported item.
But a click on the import icon, or the expand icon next to the "Saving to", or some other buttons, all bring the Zotero Desktop window to the front. So I need to minimise Zotero Desktop again, to go back to the connector options. But then again another button brings back again the Zotero Desktop icon.

This does not happen if Zotero Desktop is not minimised, i.e. just opening Firefox on top of Zotero Desktop.

Is it possible to suppress this behaviour so that I can select the destination of the imported item from the connector?

Zotero 7.1-beta.36+1eacc8bbd (64-bit)
Zotero Connector 5.0.167
Firefox 139.0.4 (64-bit)
Windows 10
  • Do you have any plugins installed? Can you reproduce this in Troubleshooting Mode (Help -> Restart in Troubleshooting Mode)?
  • I had tested with all plugins disabled, but I also see the same in Troubleshooting Mode.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Open Zotero Destkop (either full screen or not)
    2) Minimise it
    3) Open an article in Firefox, for example: https://doi.org/10.1017/jfm.2020.694
    4) Import by clicking on the Zotero Connector icon
    5) Click on the expand arrow:
    https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u265723/p8sf338dxqkpm64wpwze.png
-> The Zotero Desktop window comes on top of the Firefox window.

All the expand arrows in the libraries and collections tree also do the same.
  • I cannot reproduce this. Does this happen if you create a new Zotero profile? Could you provide a Debug ID for the click that makes Zotero appear on top from Zotero?
  • Zotero Desktop: The Debug ID is D1158770988.
Zotero Connector: The Debug ID is D1949208663.

    Zotero 7.1-beta.37+e50787c94 (64-bit)
    Zotero Connector 5.0.167
    Firefox 139.0.4 (64-bit)
    Windows 10

I will test a new Zotero profile.
  • @adomasven: I do get the same also with a new Zotero profile.

@adomasven: I can reproduce also on a Windows 11 Virtual Machine (without syncing) on a separate computer, with both Firefox [139.0.4 (64bits)] and Chrome [Version 137.0.7151.104 (Build officiel) (64 bits)].

In that Windows 11 VM, I see the problem with the beta [7.1-beta.37+e50787c94 (64-bit)], but not with the stable version of Zotero [7.0.15 (64-bit)].
