problem with syncing

I have already been working with Zotero for months, apparently without an accoutn or syncing. Now I just made an account, and want to sync my library. But when I log in on another device with my account, it shows an empty library. What do I have to do? I am afraid to close Zotero on my old device, fearing all my progress will be lost
