Mac Sequoia/Word (16.97.02): no inline citation available

I just installed Zotero (7.0.15) and I have a choice of either footnote or endnote citing - neither of which I want - but there's no option for inline. I tried to create another citation and a red bar appeared; and the program looks like it's stalled. However, it did create an inline citation - that reads (citation). Refresh didn't improve the situation. Then Z disappears and I received the attached message.

Any help is appreciated - btw, when I used Zotero in the past I never encountered probs like these.
