National Academies Press

The United States National Academies Press puts out literally hundreds of scholarly books, the majority of which can be downloaded for free. Alas, Zotero has a problem parsing the front page and gets about 95% of the meta data wrong.

The front page format always looks like:

Assessment of Department of Defense Basic Research
Committee on Department of Defense Basic Research,
National Research Council

ISBN: 0-309-54649-4, 70 pages, 6 x 9, (2005)
This free PDF was downloaded from:
http://www.nap.edu/catalog/11177.html

Caveat: A very small percentage of the ISBN's listed at the front of the file are wrong and do not agree with the formal front of the book where it is listed correctly, usually both as the 10 digit and the 13 digit numbers
  • After discussions with them, a little clarification is in order about the ISBN numbers. It turns out that they assign different numbers to PDF's than to printed books. The problem is that no database that I have been able to find holds their PDF ISBN numbers. They are looking into the question to see where their ISBN's should be getting filed.

The problem of the incorrect recognition of things like title, etc remains.
  • Zotero uses the COinS embedded in the site - if you have contact to the people at NAP you can ask them if they could improve their metadata so Zotero will get the correct data:

Otherwise, they or someone else will need to write a dedicated translator for the site:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/creating_translators_for_sites
right now there is a virtually endless list of requested translators, so any progress on that will come from an interested party contributing.
