Reversed Parentheses Issue in Arabic In-text Citations Using Zotero Description:
When using Zotero with Microsoft Word to insert in-text citations in Arabic, the parentheses appear reversed, showing like this: )( instead of the correct format ( ).
For example, a citation like:
(العتيبي، 2024)
is automatically rendered as:
)2024، العتيبي(
This issue occurs even when using standard citation styles like APA 7th edition. It seems to be caused by the right-to-left (RTL) text direction in Arabic, which conflicts with the default left-to-right formatting of citation elements.
However, when inserting the same citation in English, Zotero renders the parentheses correctly as expected:
(Amiri, 2024)
This leads to a formatting inconsistency in bilingual academic documents, especially for researchers working in both English and Arabic. The current behavior forces users to manually edit citations or create separate styles, which is inefficient.
