Collaborators without Zotero Plug in Joining Google Doc - Breaks All Zotero Links

Our organization works collaboratively in Google Docs, often with external collaborators. We have found that if someone without the Zotero plugin contributes to the Google Doc, it will break all the existing Zotero links in the document. This can even happen if you accidentally work on the document from another of your own browsers without the plugin. In both cases, this happens even if they are not changing citations.

Is there a way to avoid this happening?

To be safe, anyone editing the document should have the Zotero Connector installed. They don't need Zotero itself if not working on citations. This is a documented limitation of the Google Docs plugin:

Note that simply editing the document without the Zotero Connector shouldn't break all the citations, and if you're seeing that, we'd want precise Steps to Reproduce. But dragging around citations without the Connector, for example, would break them.
