zotero very slow on google docs as opposed to Ms Word
First of all, thanks for a great product! Do not let what follows make you believe that I hate zotero, all the contrary. Just want it to get better!
Speed in google docs is painful. It makes us want to cry and switch to Paperpile. Even in the free version of paperpile, working with just the paperpile extension into google docs, things work speedier and adding citations, etc just flow and control is returned back to the user in a snap.
But Zotero on google docs is a pain. I work with zotero both on local files (.docx) and in Google Docs through my browser (Google Chrome, up to date, latest version) and the Zotero connector.
In local files (.docx), adding citations with Zotero is fast, snappier, and control of the document is returned ASAP. This is what should just happen.
Same with Paperpile.
However when working with google docs, interaction is very slow. The citation dialog appears relatively fast (save for the checking of credentials), but upon adding citations, the 'Zotero is updating your document. Please wait...' banner with the greyed document takes very long to update (e.g. give back control to the user to keep writing). This is a killer performance issue.
Weirdly enough, even if I mark the Google docs document as 'available offline' (File --> Make available offline) which should allow me to work disconnected from the network, Zotero still makes checks against the cloud (e.g. to validate, again, my identity), and I assume also to access references, etc.
In summary it seems like Zotero is bound to use network checks (a lot , or with very poor latency) when working through Google docs, but this does not seem to be the case when using a local Word file.
Is there any chance to fix this? Currently usability through google docs is very slow and irritating.
