Google Books Download Stopped Working

Hi,

I'm having trouble downloading citations from Google Books. (Google Scholar seems fine.) For example, at http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=EMAiVs23XBcC&oi=fnd&pg=PA316&dq=dymski+ssa&ots=WajsUczEgR&sig=y-g-PQ1UAkLZ4TQreeS1K9wYloo#v=onepage&q=dymski ssa&f=false I see the file-folder icon and click it, but Zotero tells me "Could not Save Item. An error occurred while saving this item. Check the Known Translator Issues for more information."

I did check the Known Translator Issues page and found nothing relevant. I then followed the link to Troubleshooting Translator Issues and did everything on that page, including disabling all my other plug-ins.

I am using FF 3.6.3 and Zotero 2.0.2 on XP Pro x64 SP3.

Thanks!
  • An update was recently proposed for the Google Books translator-- perhaps it will fix this issue.

Go to http://groups.google.com/group/zotero-dev/web/Google Books.js and place the file in the translators directory of your Zotero data directory. Please post here and report whether this fixes things for you. If so, maybe this updated translator can get pushed to all clients soon.
  • ajlyon,

I tried your proposed solution, but am still getting the message "Could not save item."

    I shall remain hopeful. Thanks!
  • For now, you can go to the book overview (http://books.google.com/books?id=EMAiVs23XBcC) and save from there. Hopefully an improved Google Books translator will be forthcoming.
  • FWIW, the updated translator does work for me for the link above. Are you sure you overwrote the original "Google Books.js" translator file, and that you restarted Firefox after replacing the translator?
  • Hmm. In that case, disregard my email on zotero-dev. I had somehow corrupted the downloaded file when I replaced the translator with its updated version. Thanks Rintze for posting this -- it works for me.
  • Works for me now also, from the overview page. Thanks!
