Zotero Not Recognizing Old Citation

I made a document with citations using Zotero, and now that I'm going back to edit the Word document a few days later it no longer recognizes my citations. It was saved as a docx, the citations still appear in the blue box things, I never hit the unlink citation button, and when I try to browse a previous version of the document nothing changes. How do I fix this, it's incredibly frustrating

    If they're truly flattened — which you should verify — it would have to be something you did with the document. Zotero citations are standard Word fields, so they're preserved by Word when you save as a .docx. Zotero itself has nothing to do with it.

    I'm not sure what you mean by this. Word fields have gray highlighting (depending on settings), not blue anything. Can you provide a screenshot, and/or email the document to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
