Attachments do not sync via WebDAV

This discussion was created from comments split from: File synchronization error.
  • Hi, everybody!
I have the same problem. The internet connection is excellent and webDav is setup correctly. And this is not the timing/inactivity problem.
If I syncing all my library via webDav, the attachments do not sync.
If I use "show file" the same error "file not found" is shown.
(the storage directory for the particular records contain ".zotero-ft-unprocessed" file)
But then I use "open pdf" command the file is downloaded and after some delay is opened in the Zotero viewer.
I can do it one-by-one for every record, but this is inconvenient, I have very large library with dozens of pdfs.
  • (Please start new threads for new issues — the thread you posted to isn't related. I've moved this to a new thread.)

It just sounds like you have file syncing set to "as needed". Show File doesn't trigger downloads.
  • See Files Not Syncing. If you changed WebDAV settings, you might just need to do Reset File Sync History.
  • Not, I use "at sync time"

I also have one group library with prepaid Zotero storage. It syncing automaticaly without problems. It looks like the Zotero try to sync my library also with Zotero storage, but not with WebDav directory
  • I also did Reset File Sync History. No success.
  • It syncs only about 50 files, that I downloaded manually one-by-one and that was in the Zotero storage before I setup webDav
  • We need the Debug ID the page asks for, then.
  • How to obtain it ? What should I do ?
  • Follow the steps on the page I linked to above.

  • And for opening a file that then downloads?

And can we see a Debug ID for actually running "Reset File Sync History" and then clicking the sync button? This shouldn't be from Zotero startup — just starting with that operation.

    with reset and after syncing

That shows a sync. It doesn't show you running Reset File Sync History. I suspect you're not actually running it — this shouldn't be happening otherwise. If you think you are, can you provide some screenshots that show exactly what you're doing?

the file error and after downloading and opening

Reset and syncing (reset is logged)
  • OK, but we need the other order: 1) a Debug ID for resetting file sync history and syncing and 2) a Debug ID for then trying to open the file that still doesn't exist after the sync.
  • Dear dstillman

This is ID for resetting history; syncing; showing file that was not synced; opening this pdf in a viewer; and finally showing the file again

and this is the ID for showing file that was not synced; opening this pdf in a viewer; and finally showing the file again

Also I looked on the syncing on my other computers. In all cases it works normal. But my other computers all run on Winndows 10, while one with problem is under Windows 11
  • OK, thanks. It looks like there's a bug in Zotero 7 that can prevent files from being downloaded if Reset File Sync History is run on a device where files are missing locally. It should be fixed now in the Zotero 7.1 beta. You should be able to install that (or just run the ZIP version), sync, and then switch back to the release version.
  • Dear dstillman

Thank you! The beta version works nicely
