Linked pdf to Stored pdf

Hi,

I'm using Zotero only since a couple of days, and I love it :)

Now, I want to make all my pdf's stored pdf's.
I probably have a mix of linked and stored pdfs, because I experimented with the settings... without really knowing what I was doing (oops, sorry!)

I have Zotero 7 (on a Microsoft laptop) + Attanger + Zotmoov installed

How can I tell if an attached pdf is linked or stored?
How do i switch from linked to stored? (and, maybe for the future: vice versa)

Thanks for trying to help me!

Linked PDFs show under their item in the main pane with the chain-link PDF icon. Stored PDFs don't have the chain-link.

To convert linked PDFs back to stored files, select item(s) or PDF(s) in the main pane, then use Tools\Manage Attachments\Convert Linked Files to Stored Files. If they are indeed linked files, Zotero will move them back under Zotero\storage (into an arbitrarily-named folder in your OS). Note that Zotero must be able to find the linked PDF in order to move it back into local storage.

Re linked file management, you don't want Zotmoov and Attanger both enabled at the same time. Choose one or the other. Or neither, if you no longer want future PDFs to be moved as linked files.
  • Thank you for your reply!

1/ Not one pdf seems to show the chain-link icon as I've found on
    https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u16873963/mc11bdpyetmvk0z57g7b.png
(I really needed an image to know what I was looking for :)

2/ So, I've disabled Zotmoov and Attanger, and I've imported a new pdf from the web. Also, this pdf-icon shows no chain-link icon.

3/ When I try "\Convert Linked Files to Stored Files" as you mentioned: this displays as a 'grey' button, that can not be clicked on. For every pdf that I've tried.

Good to know?: I need the files to be stored (not linked) in order to be able to upload them in SciSpace. For a dozen of items, I've added the pdf's in Zotero by drag and drop. These pdf's were then uploaded in SciSpace without any problem. These pdf's thus seemed to be stored (not linked) in Zotero, after drag and drop, but didn't show the chain-link icon (don't know if this is helpful information).

  • Correction...
I see now that the stored pdf's have NO link-chain (not the other way around, sorry, my bad)

So according to Zotero, all my pdf's are stored, not linked (since no pdf has the chain-link).

Then maybe the only question is why the pdf's don't upload to SciSpace, exept for the pdf's that I've dragged and dropped into Zotero (which was the case yesterday - I've tried the same for another item+pdf today and that didn't work).

    Better contact SciSpace help?
Anyone who works with SciSpace + Zotero?
  • If the files can be opened in the web library, you'd have to ask SciSpace.

If not, see Files Not Syncing.
