How to add citation via paper id in zotero database

Hello everyone! I want to know if it's possible to add citations using documents id in my zotero databse like in EndNote. I couldn't find this option by myself so i don't know this feature is included at all. Thanks in advance for the answer.
  • What do you mean by "paper id"?
  • Zotero is a database, every object in it has it's own id, that never changes. If delete 100th paper in my zotero and add a new one, it wont be numbered as 100, but as 101. Thats what i mean by paper id. Guess it would be more correct to call it just a serial number
  • No, we don't expose internal database ids for citing. (They wouldn't be numbers anyway — Zotero works offline and optionally syncs data between computers, so numeric ids aren't consistent between devices. The global identifiers are longer alphanumeric strings.)

In a future update, every item type will have a Citation Key field, and you'll be able to use that field for a custom citation key. For now, that's only available via the Better BibTeX plugin, which is primarily for BibTeX-based workflows where using citation keys directly is common.
  • thank you so much!
