better web forum

Not a request for Zotero itself, but how about a better web forum where we could get email replies and keep track of posts without searching, etc. I know you're using free, open-source software, but for something of the importance of Zotero, we must have the top-of-the-line!

    I actually like Vanilla quite a bit. Discussions can be tracked with bookmarks or with RSS.

    I do have an objection to Zotero's implementation, though. Originally there was no way to link, so I'd enclose links in angle brackets like <http://www.google.com>. But now these are autolinked (which is good). But they are linked poorly (they include the closing bracket). Also, HTML links don't seem to actually work.

    I'll fiddle with the auto-linking plugin to try to get it not to include the closing bracket. Plain links without brackets, of course, work fine.

    Switched to a different HTML processor—you're right that the other seemed to be rather broken. This one also lets you mix regular newlines and HTML rather than having to use <p> all over.

    Update: Fixed. <http://www.google.com>;
  • Thanks--works well!
  • The auto-linking plugin is including the closing bracket again.

    I'll try to stop using the closing bracket, but the habit is hard to break.
  • Fixed again. Thanks.
  • Hate to be difficult. I used angle brackets, in particular, due to RFCs 1738, 2369 & others. While these aren't reserved, they (and quotation marks) are rarely in URLs un-encoded because they are commonly used as delimiters.

    However, the auto-linker also breaks URLs with parentheses, which are much more common (and used in both WP and DOIs, unlike parentheses):

    Lazily wrapping the URL with an 'a href' does not fix it (presumably this is a good feature: it prevents people from misleading the destination of a URL):
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_(Unix)

    Adding some linking text does work fine:
    link with text
