Number the references in the associated documents in the Reader view

I think many of my colleagues have a habit of adding references or citing articles of a certain article to the bibliographic database and associating them with them. However, when we look at the related documents of this article, we cannot distinguish which are references and which are citing literature, if we can distinguish and number the references, we can better sort out the context and progress of this research direction. So we're looking forward to improvements that distinguish between references and citing articles, and that references are numbered in the order in which they appear in the text.

The Related tab is a bit of an undefined hold-all. As you indicate, there is no way to signify *why* you have placed an item under Related - was it cited by the paper, or has it cited this paper, or did you put the item under Related for some other reason ? Also, only being able to see the *title* of Related items means that when reading the text of a paper whose in-text citations are by author, you cannot easily tell if you have already placed a cited reference under Related (unless you go to to the paper's reference list).

The best solution to my mind is *not* to put cited or cited-by papers under Related. Just leave Related for items that don't belong to those two categories. Instead, to get an automatic list of a paper's cited and cited-by references, the References plugin adds a tab for that (that works for papers where that information is readily available, which is most current papers these days).
