Change default cite style

Shouldn't Zotero remember the cite style I'm using in a particular document? Every time I open the document, I have to select the style anew from the list. Is there some way to change the default?

Are you using Zotero's word processor plugin https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation ? It is definitely designed to save the selected style as a property of your document.

Yes, I'm using it, but it doesn't seem to remember from one time to another.

That's not a good sign. Have you checked that is still recognizes citations inserted the last time you had it open? E.g., when you add a bibliography, does it include all citations?
