I have no plugins installed and use paid-for Zotero syncing, with the standard file renaming rules. My pdf's are not automatically renamed. How do I fix this ?
Did you run "Rename File from Parent Metadata" after editing the metadata manually? Zotero will automatically rename all files saved from the web, the first file you drag onto an existing parent item, and files that it retrieves metadata for and creates a parent item for. If you make further manual changes, that doesn't currently cause it to re-rename the file, though we're planning to introduce "continuous renaming" in an upcoming version that will keep the file renamed as you make changes.
It's currently the only way to manually run that operation, yes, but I explained all the ways above that files are renamed automatically. Can you give a specific example of how exactly you're running into this, step by step?
You generally shouldn't be typing metadata in manually in Zotero — you would be either saving from the web or adding files that could be automatically recognized. Note that PDF metadata retrieval is currently failing on some DOIs due to a very unusual server error from doi.org, so maybe that's the main issue you're seeing? If so, that will likely be resolved soon.
I have hundreds (possibly thousands) of PDFs that I have collected over the years. I am hoping to get these into one sorted, catalog, that can be accessed by ChatGPT and other AI engines (the main reason I am moving away from Paperpile) Some of these get metadata, most need me to add at least some.

The file name does not appear to change after changing the metadata
I then manually edited the metadata.

I have no rename option
But is that the only way? clicking on each one manually, (actually twice, after selecting the parent)
