Unable to add citation with word in zotero with macbook sonoma 14.6.1

I am unable to add citation with word in zotero with macbook sonoma 14.6.1. If am adding citation 2, then 1 gets added again. How do I correct this?

How exactly are you adding citations?

I add using the add/edit citation in word toolbar. Then the red zotero bar comes.So, if I am adding a second citation, there is an indicator on the right which keeps circling without any result. So use the classic view and search my new reference. On getting it, when I click on it, the citation is 1 with an _ and not 2

If this is in an existing document, you likely flattened the document by mistake. See Existing Citations Not Detected.

Thanks. Looks like it. In a new, copied document, it gets added.
