From Word to Writer without Office

Is there a way to covert citations MS Word understands to citations Libreoffice Writer understands without having access to MS Oftice at all?

I know the standard conversion method involving exporting to an intermediate format. That would require having access to Word. I would think all the information needed to recreate the citations is stored in those docx fields, so zotero or someone else should be able to do it.
  • See the official documentation here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/moving_documents_between_word_processors

WITHOUT Word you could try to use an online converter that takes a .docx and makes it into an .odt.
Otherwise, why not ask a friend who has Word installed?
  • Both MS Word and LO Writer can convert .docx to .odt. Do you mean there is an online converter that also converts the Zotero fields Word understands to Zotero fields Writer understands? If there is such an online converter there are privacy concerns in sharing files with a random third-party. Unless I missed something, access to Word is required.

(I am asking because I am planning to replace Windows with Linux, so I will have to convert all my own writings to formats Libreoffice understands if I want to be able to edit my citations.)
  • Yeah, the online converter won't help. I can't think of a way to do this without Word. It would be theoretically possible, yes, but it'd be a ton of work for something that's rarely needed. Most people are able to get to a computer with Word installed for converting docs
