[Bug report] Printing a large document is excruciatingly slow

I have a 750 page document from which I'd like to print a few pages. It takes a good 2 minutes to load and bring the printing settings.

Are there any plans to improve this situation ?

Thank you very much.

  • I don't love pdf.js (the reader Zotero uses) for printing in general -- I'd just open in an external reader (via show file) if you want to priz

Yes, this is indeed what I ended up doing.

In this case, a convenient "single-action" way to open pdf into an external reader would be nice to have, instead of the slightly convoluted current process :

    1. Going back to file list in the Library.
    2. Search for appropriate file.
    3. Identify the proper pdf and right click.
    4. Select the "Open file location" option.
    5. Identify the pdf in the opened folder.
    6. Finally, double click to open the pdf in the appropriate external reader.

In addition, for the current usecase :

    7. Click file.
    8. Click print.

An alternative to a convenient "single-action" method to open pdf would be a functional pdf.js print menu, where the 8 preceeding actions could be reduced to :

    1. Click print icon.
  • (1) and (2) can be simplified - just right-click the tab and select Show in Library.

What do you mean by "a functional pdf.js print menu"?

@AbeJellinek : Thank you, this is nice to know.

By "a functional pdf.js print menu", I meant one which can be opened in less than 2 minutes, even for a 750 pages document (Acrobat Reader print menu opens in around 500ms for that same 750 pages document).
  • You can simplify 3-6 to one click using https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-open-pdf
  • @adamsmith : so useful, thank you very much.
