Numeric styles in Google Docs

Can you only choose numeric style in Word? I have my entire document with Zotero-inserted citations on a Google Doc.

No, numeric styles work in Google Docs too. Could you either post a screenshot and/or explain a bit more what the problem is?

Within document preferences, I added a numeric style "Journal of Neuroscience and Neuroegineering." Not all of my citations switched over, as seen in this attached image. Please let me know of a way to trouble shoot. Thank you!

What happens if you do edit them? Do they update then? They shouldn't be visibly linked (i.e. not be blue/underlined), so something isn't quite right
