Style Error: American College of Clinical Pharmacy

I was using this today and noted a few errors for in text citations specifically. (Link to style guide: https://www.accp.com/docs/sap/References.pdf). Of note, the instructions for in text citations are at the very top of the reference document.

In text citations:
-Only the first author's last name should be present, not et. al
-When multiple sources cited within the same citation, they should be in reverse chronological order with newest first. If multiple with the same year, they should be in alpha order
-For sources without authors, the abbreviated name of the author organization should be used followed by the year, such as (CDC 2021; ACOG 2013), not the name of the article/chapter
-Example: (Abbott 2015; Costello 2015; Abbott 2014; Lewis 2014; CDC 2010)
  • 1.: I very much doubt that they want this. They just picked some bad examples in their guidelines.

    2. Switched to "descending"

    3. You will need to use a workaround. There is currently no way of doing that. Either omit the author and putting it manually or writing it out with CDC at the end and then deleting the first part manually.

    (PR: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/pull/7450)
  • 1. As someone who is currently publishing with them and getting editor comments back, they very much do want what the first point mentioned. Can someone suggest how to change this?

    2. I tried to update the style language but was struggling to find where to put this part. Can you provide any additional guidance?

    3. I was afraid of this. I’ll plan to just manually update these.
  • Why not put CDC into the author field for 3? That seems right anyway if there's no personal author
  • @adamsmith - that's what I'm doing for now. It does make some funky things happen in the full citation within the auto-generated references however. I think I'll have to go in an manually edit something either way, so for now it's easier to have the abbreviation of the org in the author last name field so things are cited appropriately within the text. Once everything is done, I can do one round of manual edits within the references for updates for those without authors.
