Text highlight from Outline not consistent

The text target of an outline item does not always show for the same time duration.
It is normally showing for around 2 seconds. But sometimes is is just blinking. And sometimes it simply does not show at all.

It is not always reproducible, but the things that seem to be affecting it are:
1) Clicking on multiple outline items quickly seems to shorten or even prevent the highlight to appear on successive outline items text.
2) If the page is loading after clicking on the outline item, the text is not highlighted by the time the loading of the page is finished, or at least it only appears for a shorter time.
3) For some reasons, the view can either scroll to the target, or directly jump to it. When scrolling, the time needed to scroll seems to also affect the time we see the highlighted text.
4) For some PDF files, the highlight never shows on the target text. For example (OA article): https://doi.org/10.1016/j.compfluid.2025.106571

  • Highlights are only visible when navigating the extracted outline. We need to make this behavior consistent. But which way do you prefer?

It scrolls when the target is nearby, otherwise it jumps.
  • I would prefer having the highlights in all cases.

    This is useful to:
    - Identify the position of the title in 2 columns articles
    - Identify the target of the outline item when they are included within the main text. See for example: https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevLett.134.070604
    - Check why some outline items are not working properly in Zotero, as for example the article mentioned above.
    - Make sure that the target of the outline items is correct, and eventually correct them. For example, in the article linked in the first post, the outline item "Data availability" seems to go to the top of the page instead of the location of the text. So it becomes more difficult to find it.

And it would be consistent with the links to references, which is very nice.

    Thank you.
