I installed Zotero on my Chromebook. All the notification windows open with just the header, and I need to resize them manually.

Hello Eran, I have the same issue on my Chromebook. It is a GTK+ issue and not specific to Zotero. I experience the same issue when opening the linux-native Firefox Bookmark Manager. I suspect the same behavior will occur on any linux-native app that uses GTK. (GTK is the rendering library that linux-native apps use to draw their GUI components.)

I am in communication with GTK developers about the issue, but they are not motivated because debugging the issue requires they have access to a device exhibiting the issue. It seems the issue is of very limited scope.

Can you please reply with your Chromebook details? The issue may be caused by a package configuration error for specific Chromebook models. The more specific the better. If you type "chrome://system/" into a new chrome tab, and search down for "hardware_class" you will find the official Google identifier for your Chromebook.

With this info and the error you listed, which I also found just now (googling it brought me to your post here!), the GTK developers may be able to determine who is responsible for maintaining the offending code. If it's not them, I can pass the info along to the appropriate maintainers and hopefully an updated package will come soon.

Interestingly we both have Acer Chromebooks released in 2019. There are several possibilities at the moment. One of them is that our machines share graphics hardware. Can you please give me the Acer model number for your machine? It should look something like this: CP514-XXX-YYYY. Acer lists 5x different 514 models and I can't figure out which one is yours from the ChromeOS hardware_class you gave (it's a Google internal identifier).

Thank you for your help! This is not going to get fixed fast, I don't think, but 2019 Acer Chromebooks is a much smaller haystack to search! The problem is almost certainly a config issue, either at package installation, or GTK startup. If they share graphics chipsets, then it's probably a GTK config issue, since I doubt package installation tweaks hardware settings, but what do I know? I think we're almost there, but it could take a while...

...could you also pull a GPU report for me? That will tell me more than the Acer hardware specs page for your machine. If you type "chrome://gpu" into the address bar you will see all the gory details of your graphics setup.

I don't know how/if you can attach files to threads here. If you have that option, click "Download report to file" at the top of the GPU Internals tab and attach the about-gpu-blahblah.txt file here. It's a big file, so pasting it here is not a good option.

You can PM it to me, OR you can post only the "Driver Information", "Driver Bug Workarounds", and "Problems Detected" sections, which are all in a row below the "Version Info" section. You can edit out the GL_EXTENSIONS list before you post as it's not helpful.
