Zotero is already running, but is not responding. The old Zotero process must be closed to open ..

Problem:
Zotero is already running, but is not responding. The old Zotero process must be closed to open a new window.

We tried to kill all the Zotero-Windows-Tasks. We also deleted the Zotero-roaming-Profile. The PC was restarted many times. The user is still using V6 and want to change to V7. But if we cannot solve this problem, the newer version can't be installed.

Anyone that have solved this problem?
  • I have same problem. I have deleted all profile whose names include "zotero". New version install package still alert "Zotero is already running".
  • I'm not sure what "profile" you're referring to here (or even what OS you're running, @StevenHat). Can you provide a screenshot that shows the problem?

    OS: Win 11.
    I'm installing Zotero7, but installer.exe: "Zotero is already running. Please close Zotero before running the installer."

    I have tried:
    1.delete the "parent.lock" and totally restart the computer
    2.uninstall Zotero6 and delete all related file in C:\\ and D:\\
    3.install Zotero6 again (Zotero6 can be installed, while Zotero7 not)
    But none is work :(

    By the way, I once moved the folder containing the Zotero program directly. (after moving, it still work normally) (may it's the culprit behind the mistake?)
