Problems installing LibreOffice integration on system with non-Oracle Java

On my work computer, the LibreOffice integration with Zotero has stopped working. In LO, I have removed the Zotero extension, but when I try to manually re-install it from the Zotero_LibreOffice_integration.txt file, I get this error message:

(com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException) { { Message = "javaloader error - could not find class com/sun/star/comp/loader/JavaLoader", Context = (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @0 } }

I suspect that the problem is related to the fact, that my work computer uses a different Java system than Oracle Java. Java is enabled in LO. On my home computer, running Java from Oracle but otherwise a similar configuration, I have not experienced problems.

LibreOffice is version 24.8, Zotero is 7.0.11, the Zotero plugin reports as 7.0.1 before failing, the platform is Windows 10. The problem started with Zotero 6, but unfortunately was not solved by upgrade to Zotero 7.

Any suggestions?

Regards,
Lars
  • Does anybody have pointers on how to handle this issue? It makes Zotero unusable on my work computer, and has done so for months now, so any help will be appreciated.

    I do not know for sure, that the problem is related to the Java system, it just seems likely based on the circumstances. Java is from Azul Systems, v. 1.8.0. I have tried to ask the IT department for temporary install of Oracle Java, but for financial reasons, that is not possible.

    Does anybody else have experience running the LibreOffice plugin with a non-Oracle Java version (on Windows or on other systems)?

    Regards,
    Lars
