Hello,

I am using Zotero 6.0.37 on a Mac iOS Sonoma 14.6.1. I am having two issues with referencing/citations.

1. When inserting a citation for one reference, it is presented in two different formats. I need this to be consistent. The entry looks fine, so I'm not sure why this is happening
2. Within the references section in my Word document, random references are presented with 'et al.' instead of listing all authors. Again, the entries look fine, so I'm not sure why this is happening.

I have a submission deadline in 2 days, so I am keen to resolve these issues and would appreciate any help the community can give.

Thanks,
Emily
  • (2) is controlled by the citation style you are using. Without the name of the style (which you pick in Word, Zotero tab > Document Preferences), it is hard to say. But each style determines for which citation et al. will be used (usually above a certain number of authors, as journals/publishers require).

    (1) might be due to you using one style, then flatting the field codes in the Word file (e.g., modifying it using another program or saving it in a format other than .docx), then working more on the file after selecting a different style. Would also explain (1).
