Upgrade StorageAnnotations made in external app

I would like to annotate my PDFs using an external application (PDF X-Change Editor). To do this, I have set Zotero to open PDFs in the system default application (in the general settings). However, my problem is that Zotero doesn’t show annotations made in the external app in the "Annotations" section of the sidebar. Zotero refreshes this section only when I change the settings to open PDFs in Zotero and then open the file within Zotero.
Is there any way to make these new annotations visible in Zotero without having to go through this process? I’ve tried reopening both the PDF app and Zotero, but it hasn’t made any difference.

martynas_bYes, I suppose we could consider triggering the import when previewing the PDF in the sidebar.
