Left pane: Automatic highlighting of tags and folders for selected item(s)
Currently, when pressing the Ctrl Key when an item is selected in the middle pane, the collections it is in are highlighted in yellow. If it is attributed to a sub-collection the parent folder(s) are automatically expanded.
The tags that are assigned to the item are only displayed if the Tags-Tab on the right pane is selected, but not if the notes pane is selected.
I envisage the following behavior to provide a significantly better user experience:
The currently selected collection should be highlighted more prominently than it is now (for example some shade of blue and bold type face, the same shade of blue that is currently used when an item is selected in the middle pane).
When an item inside the collection is selected in the middle pane, then additional collections that it is attributed to are immediately highlighted without one having to press the Ctrl key, for example in the same shade of blue, but not bold but normal type face.
If the item is attributed to a sub-collection whose parent collection is not expanded, the parent collection should not be auto-expanded - as it is now - with the effect that current view of the folder/collection tree changes; instead the parent collection should be highlighted, albeit differently, for example in a lighter shade of blue (and normal type face), so that one can immediately discern that the item belongs to a sub-collection that is not visible at the moment.
Just as the collections are highlighted when a single item is selected in the middle pane, also the associated tags should be auto-highlighted, for example in the very same shade of blue.
If it is not a single item that is selected in the middle pane, but a whole range (with the shift-key) or a several isolated ones (with the ctrl-key), then the highlighting should behave like this:
Collections that all selected items belong to are highlighted in the normal shade of blue. If not all but only some of the items belong to a collection, that collection is highlighted in the lighter shade of blue. If this applies to sub-folders that are not expanded, then the parent folders shall be highlighted in an even lighter shade of blue.
For tags the same should apply. Tags that all selected items have in common should be highlighted in normal, and tags that only some of the items are associated with should be highlighted in the lighter shade of blue.
End of description. I think the reasoning and objective for this design should be clear enough, so I will not elaborate on it.
