Help! No blue bok icon for most websites

I am having 2 problems. I've been through all the steps on the Translators website. I have all the updated software, but I still have no Zotero icon

PROBLEM 1) For many websites I the blue book icon does not appear in the address bar:

Report ID: 2027439067
URL: http://www.amazon.com/nation-risk-imperative-educational-Department/dp/B002YIFXIK

Same is true for all Amazon, NYT, WashingtonPost websites I have tried so far.
This used to be working.

PROBLEM 2) Every now and again when I can get the blue book icon it gives the "could not save item" error.

Report ID: 1739338091
URL: http://oep.oxfordjournals.org/content/53/3/541.short

But again it is rare to get to the blue book icon. It maybe works 5% of the time. For example the following URL does not show a blue book icon: http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/full/10.1086/321014

Thanks for any assistance. Zotero was great... until the icon disappeared.

The uchicago link gives an article icon here, and the article citation details and attachment download correctly.

Have you tried the steps recommended in the troubleshooting translator issues page, linked from the no address bar icon item in the FAQ?
  • I have done everything on the troubleshooting translator issues page:

    1. I have Zotero Version 2.0.2
    2.I have Firefox version 3.6
    3. My Translators are “Up-to-date”
    4. I can't hover because I don't have a blue book icon, but when I do it says “Embedded RDF”
    5. is n/a because I have Firefox 3.6
    6. All of my Add-ons except Zotero are disabled
    7. I do not receive any script warnings
    8. I Reset my Translators and my database Passed integrity

I'm going to try a different computer to see if that is the issue, but otherwise I don't know what is wrong.

Could there be a conflict with other Firefox add-ons that you have installed?

    (Apologies: I missed item 6.)
  • Except that when they're disabled, there really shouldn't be conflicts... I would certainly remove and reinstall Zotero, because this behavior sounds quite odd and no obvious causes come to mind.
  • Security Error: Content at http://www.amazon.com/nation-risk-imperative-educational-Department/dp/B002YIFXIK may not load or link to about:self
It may not be related, but I've never seen this message before, nor have I ever even seen the "about:self" pseudo-URL (and I don't see it anywhere in the Firefox source)...

Provide a Debug ID for the loading of the Amazon page.

Also, have you disabled plugins as well?
  • I disabled to plugin and restarted firefox and the translators started working again. Worth a try :)
