Zotero crashing trying to insert citation with umlaut

Zotero plug in for word is having issues trying to input a citation with an author's name with an umlaut.( ö )
-tried deleting the dotm and reinstalling (didn't help)
-can insert other references.
-can insert this reference when I remove the umlaut.

I've not had this problem before, but I also don't input a lot of names with accents.

thoughts? My plan right now is to change it after all is done, but I don't want this to happen many times....
