Popup menus not activating

No popup menus are working for me. For instance, in the Style Editor, clicking on the Language popup menu, or any of the others, or any similar menus anywhere in Zotero, does nothing except highlight the menu button.

  • Restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins. If that fixes it, you'll need to identify the plugin that's causing it and then report the problem to the plugin's developer. If not, try restarting your computer, and provide a Report ID if you're still having trouble.

    There are still plugins running in that Report ID. We want a Report ID from Troubleshooting Mode.

    Also, though, you've clearly been using Zotero, so presumably this is a new problem? What happened on your computer between when this was working and when it stopped?

    Does it work in Zotero 7.0.11 from the download page?

    No, but I only noticed it in the Better Notes template manager, so I thought it was a BN bug and didn’t think much of it until I needed the menu.
  • So you're saying, like, the Item Type menu in the item pane doesn't work?
  • No, that works, but although it functions as a popup menu, it doesn’t have the UI of a Mac popup menu, like those in the Style Editor and the Style Preview windows do.

    However, I just noticed that the popup menus in the Export pane of Preferences *do* work.

    We haven't tested on 10.15 in a while, but we have no reason to think there's a problem there, and I don't recall our ever hearing of anything like this.

    Is there anything else unusual about your Mac setup? Are you using multiple monitors? An unusual pointing device? Any utility programs that might be interfering?
  • No; I rebooted in safe mode, and even logged into another account to launch Zotero with a new library. Same results.

    Though now I’m seeing that the popup menus in *all* the preference panes work, even third-party ones. It’s only in “dialog windows” that they don’t work: Style Editor, Style Preview, and in the Better Notes Template Editor.
  • And 7.0.11 shows the same behavior.
