special characters not recognized

Upon saving a citation into zotero from e.g.
http://prb.aps.org/abstract/PRB/v80/i7/e075431
international characters (ü) is not recognized in the author field, instead it is displayed as �
Also, for example
http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v464/n7289/full/nature08967.html
apostrophe is displayed as /'

I tried several settings in the option dialogue "export" for the characterset (automatic, western, unicode), but that did not work.

capturing a website with a "ü" in the title saves correctly though.

These are site(-translator)-specific issues. They have nothing to do with the Export setting in Zotero.
