Removing names and initials from style

Hello,

I am trying to create a style where the names and initial are always omitted, so that it looks like

If one author, "Surname"

If two authors, "Surname & Surname"

If three or more authors, "Surname et al."

no matter the type of reference. I am trying to use the style editor to change how the 'author' or 'author-short' but I do not seem to be able to achieve it. Any suggestion would be gratefully accepted.
  • We have more than 10,000 styles on the repository and will likely have something close enough.
We have 3 main groups of styles (numeric, author-date, note), but from your post it's not clear if you want the "Surname" in the text or the note. Can you explain?

Also, if you already have a style that gets you close, let us know which style exactly and we can help you with modifying it.
  • Both, but the inline citations are OK (though admittedly I might need to make them as numbered superscripts) -- this style is for funding applications were citations are needed for credibility but space is at a premium. I an trying to remember what style I am editing because I have already change the name of it. the way it looks now is:

    Individual Citations
    (Vynograd 2014)
    (Strinzel et al. 2021)
    (Fernandez-Velasco & Spiers 2024)

    Single Citation (with position "first")
    (Fernandez-Velasco & Spiers 2024, Strinzel et al. 2021, Vynograd 2014)

As I said, I would like to remove the initials in the bibliography.
  • In your bibliography you will have a "names" element and within that a "name" element. On that, set form="short".
  • It worked! Thank you so very much! Now it looks

    Bibliography
Fernandez-Velasco & Spiers (2024): Wayfinding across ocean and tundra: what traditional cultures teach us about navigation. Trends in Cognitive Sciences 28: 56–71.

which is more or less where we need to be.
