Bug Report: Zotero Auto-Update Defaults to x86 Version on Windows 11 x64

On my Windows 11 x64 system, Zotero's automatic update feature consistently installs the x86 (32-bit) version of the application, even though the system is capable of running the x64 (64-bit) version. This issue persists despite having previously installed the x64 version manually. It appears that the updater is not detecting the correct system architecture during the update process.
  • I suspect this is just a misunderstanding.

The auto-updater never switches you between architectures at this time. If you were running the 32-bit version, it wouldn't update you to the 64-bit version just because you're on an x64 system.

If you install the x64 version of Zotero 7, you should remain on x64. You can test this by installing x64 7.0.10 and updating. But Zotero 6 was only ever available as x86, so an update would put you on the x86 version of Zotero 7 and show you the banner that recommends reinstalling x64 from the download page. We might support auto-updating from 32-bit Z6 to 64-bit Z7 later, but it's not done at this time.
