Zotero saying "Votre base de données Zotero est actuellement en cours d'utilisation"

The rest of the message reads "Pour le moment, il ne peut être ouvert qu'une seule instance de Zotero utilisant la même base de données."

I have no other instance of Zotero running at the same time. I am therefore unable to open Zotero. If anyone has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I use Zotero 7.0.8 with Ubuntu 24.04.1
  • Restart your computer. Is this a shared/lab machine?

    Thanks for your reply.
I had already restarted it, but nothing changed. It's not a shared/lab machine, it's my laptop
  • Are you storing your zotero data directory on a network share or in a cloud folder? If you are, see https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/data_directory_in_cloud_storage_folder

Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

If not, see Reporting Startup Errors (including the "Logging to the Terminal" section if necessary).

(You should also update to 7.0.11. That shouldn't matter here, but you should always be on the latest version when reporting a problem.)

We can only help with the official tarball from this site or zotero-deb. I assume this a sandboxed third-party package.

    https://www.zotero.org/support/installation#linux
  • I indeed installed Zotero from Ubuntu's App Center
I tried to install it following the instructions on https://zotero.retorque.re/file/apt-package-archive/index.html but

curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/retorquere/zotero-deb/master/install.sh | sudo bash

    gives as a result

% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
    0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 0Warning: Failed to open the file

    deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/zotero-archive-keyring.gpg by-hash=force] https://zotero.retorque.re/file/apt-package-archive ./

    I didn't manage to change /usr/share/keyrings to a not read-only file system
  • We can't help with that, but you can ask the zotero-deb maintainer.

But yes, if Ubuntu's App Center means the snap, we don't have anything to do with that.
