[Bug] arXiv only saving using embedded metadata

For a while now saving arXiv articles has been giving this error:

An error occurred saving with arXiv.org. Attempting to save using Embedded Metadata instead.

The embedded metadata option seems to work fine, but something must be a bit amiss in the connector.

Please provide example URLs where saving fails.

In grabbing the URL, I realized the actual URL used was through my university proxy (which I do not want to provide). The example URL I was attempting to access was https://arxiv.org/abs/2412.02090v1. Using this URL outside of the proxy works without problem.

My proxy generally works well with other sources. Is there anything I can do to add the proxy URL to the connector for this specific arXiv site?

Can you share the URL with proxy (ideally as is, but if you want to xxx institutional information you can, we mainly need the structure) as well as a debug ID from the Zotero connector for a failed attempt to import the proxied version of the arXiv link above https://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output#zotero_connectors_firefox_chrome_and_safari
(is there a reason to access arXiv through a proxy, btw? I didn't think they provided any institution-specific content?)

OK. Here is the example URL again:

Here is the proxied URL:
https://arxiv-org.proxy.lib.xxxx.edu/abs/2412.02090

Yes, you are correct. arXiv does not require a proxy, but our local system automatically proxies it for some reason.

I would recommend talking to your library's IT department to see if they can remove arXiv from the proxy list. It looks like the proxy is responding incorrectly when Zotero requests data from export.arxiv.org.

Do check that it's not Zotero that's routing you to the proxy by checking if arxiv.org is listed in your connector as one of the sites under the current proxy

Aha! It is. I have removed it from the list. (I was not even aware of these connector options!)

But to be clear, a site would only end up there because you accessed it through a previously configured proxy, so it would still be good to ask your IT department or library not to rewrite arXiv URLs anywhere.
