Small bug ?

Hello. I'm on MacOS 10.14.6, using Zotero 7.0.7. I've noticed that at first launch of Zotero, I can use the "New Document" icon, and choose the type of document with a drop-down menu. However, for a second document, this icon is dead, and I have to use the drop-down menus in the main bar. This situation repeats itself at each re-launch of Zotero.
Any suggestions to correct the problem, or is it a bug in Zotero 707 ?

  • In reply, I've just updated to 7.0.10, and the problem persists.
  • Can you reproduce this in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins?
    If so, the devs will probably need to see a Debug ID for Zotero reproducing the problem.

  • The Debug ID is loo tong to be sent in the Comments section.
    As for the "dead icon" : nothing happens when you click on it to create a new reference. I have to go up to the main bar to access the various New documents.

  • That's a Report ID, not a Debug ID. Please follow the link for instructions.

    But we've never heard of anything like this. Do other toolbar buttons work when New Item stops working?

    Can you make a screen recording of reproducing this (using macOS's built-in Grab/Screenshot utility) and email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?

No amount of right-click, left-click, or any other type of click has an effect. It's basically "dead" (unless I quit and restart Zotero), then it's only for one document.
  • That shows you making an edit. Does it happens if you just create an empty item and then try to create another?
  • No, not at all. Here is the sequence: click on the icon, fill in the information, Enter. The new item goes to its normal place in the list. Click for another new item: dead.
  • I’m not sure what you’re saying here. I asked if it happens if you just create an empty item and then immediately create another, without filling in any metadata.
  • In reply to this question: If I create an empty item (the icon works), then immediately create another one, the icon is dead (ie I cannot create another new item). A reminder of the problem : after launching Zotero, the icon is functional to create a new item with the drop-down menu. The metadata can be entered, and once finished, the info is in its correct place in the list (I have 24 000 references). I can of course modify any of the already-entered references. But if I try to create a new reference with the icon, it's dead. I have to go to the main bar to create a new reference. However, the other icons all work fine.
