How to update proxy username and password?

I am using Zotero 7.0.8 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS (though I also have a Ubuntu 22 machine that has the same problem). My institution uses a proxy service for journal access, but the proxy username and password stored in Zotero are out of date. As a result, every time I open zotero it prompts me to enter in the username and password. I have tried to get it to store the new username and password, but to no avail, every time it shows me the incorrect, saved username and password that I have to change to log into the proxy.

How can I get Zotero to save the new proxy username and password? Alternatively, can I make forget that I even have a proxy? I have looked at the configuration editor and I see a lot of proxy settings, but I am not sure which if any I should modify.

Thanks,
David

    If someone could please give me some sort of assistance or guidance with this, it would be really helpful. When I fail to promptly enter the proxy password, it breaks Better BibTex for Zotero (see https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues/3101). The only solution appears to be completely deactivating the proxy, but then I can't access journals, which is kind of the point of Zotero...

    If for some reason this is not the appropriate place to ask this question or I am doing something wrong, then please just point me in the correct direction.

    Recently, when I had the BBT for Zotero issue, I created a Zotero Debug Log ID if that is helpful: D1498337816

    Thanks,
    David
  • Thank you so much for your help. The javascript in the comment you sent did permanently clear the old values, but I do not see how to get it to remember the new values and I couldn't find the autologin option in the Settings. I found the setting signon.autologin.proxy in the config editor and set it to true, but this does not seem to cause it to save the new login info. Am I doing something wrong?

    @dstillman @dmk

    ETA: I just reopened Zotero again and though the login wasn't saved, the plugin wasn't loaded first so there was no error message. The only difference from before is I added my zotero account credentials and toggled a few other proxy settings that seemed logical (but might not have changed anything) The original "not saving the login" still stands.

    Just want to say I have the same issue now. The old login is cleared (my institution forces us to change our password every 6 months), but now it won't remember the new one, which causes Better BibTex to malfunction each time because it tries to access the proxy before I can login.

    It seems that before in version 6, the plugins loaded after the login was confirmed.
  • Thanks for this confirmation. The BBT issue is being tracked at https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues/3101 , but Emiliano seems stumped as to how to fix it. Perhaps it is an issue beyond his control that is more general. In any case, I avoid it by just turning off the system-wide proxy and using a proxy just for Firefox, but this is a less than ideal solution and I regularly have to toggle it back on for one reason or another.
