Zotero 7.0.9 doesn't sync with word plugin / items added from hard drive

Dears

I recently upgraded to zotero 7.0.9 and imported my article library via drag & drop to the system. While I can find all items I imported to zotero in the app, when I try to create a citation for them in word, zotero doesn't find it. How do I fix this?

I've already tried to rebuild the index (?!) and updated the word plugin. None of this works and btw I cannot understand how zotero doesn't find items in word that are added on the app library.

Help please!

    I think a lot of confusion here…

First, upgrading to Zotero 7 doesn't affect your data in any way. You shouldn't be "importing" anything — any library you had in Zotero 6 on the same computer should be available after upgrading, and "importing" would certainly break links to existing citations in word processor documents. What exactly do you mean by "importing"?

What do you mean by "when I try to create a citation for them in word, zotero doesn't find it"? What are you clicking/typing, and what do you see?

And rebuilding the full-text index wouldn't be at all relevant here. (Don't click buttons deep in the settings if you don't know what they do! Just post here!)
  • Yes, I agree, a lot of confusion!

I'm not talking about data but articles I had previously stored on my laptop, and now, when starting to use Zotero, and creating a new document, wanted to add / import to Zotero library.

My understanding was that you can just drag & drop items (=articles) from your laptop into the library (which I have done, and can find these items in the zotero app), but, as said, when I try to create an in-text citation (by pressing Add/edit citation on word), the word plugin
    1) in the modern view, doesn't find these items (= blank, simple search space)
    2) in the classic view (=a view similar to the zotero app opens in word), finds them, but may:
    - either insert the full citation that is meant to reference list, not the in-text citation OR
    - inserts only the title of the item, i.e. does not make the in-text citation NOR the proper reference list citation

    SO

How do I solve this issue? I want to use the app as making the citations by hand is quite resource-intensive.

    Thanks for your help!

Oh, you probably just have standalone attachments, then:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/adding_items_to_zotero#standalone_attachments_and_parent_items

(Generally read through that whole page to make sure you understand the best ways to use Zotero.)
  • Thanks,

I think I managed to resolve the major part of the issue.
