cannot find citation or insights notes instead of citation in word 365

Something has gone radically wrong in my zotero. I am working on a large manuscript and it has been doing well. But now when I try and enter a citation, it a) cannot find the citation even though it is in the data base; When I try and enter another citation which it seems to find randomly, it enters the notes from the citation not the citation itself. This happens in my manuscript but also in new word document that I created to test. I am on a deadline. Help appreciated!
